How to Grow Basil?

Basil is an easy and popular herb to grow, suited for beginner gardeners. Native to Central Africa and Southeast Asia, basil is a member of the mint family. Its aromatic flavor lends it many applications in cooking, including sauces, pizza, sandwiches, pasta, and pesto. Growing Basil When: Basil is a warm-season plant that will not tolerate temperatures below 50°F. The earliest time you should plant basil is two weeks after the last frost. Preferring soil temperatures between 60 – 70°F, it can also be planted during the summer. You can also plant it from seed inside 6 – 8 weeks before the last frost date. As it is sensitive to cold, monitor the temperature carefully and cover it if necessary.
